In today’s video, we’re going to talk about how to export a Fusion 360 model file so that you can open it in SketchUp!
SketchUp and Fusion 360 are great 3D modeling programs – they both have their strengths and weaknesses, and sometimes you want to transfer models between the two programs. Fusion 360 makes this really easy by giving you the native ability to export to SKP – SketchUp’s native file type.
It’s actually a really easy process – simply go up to the file option at the top of the page, then select the option for “export.” Under the option for “Type,” you’re going to want the option for .skp – this is a SketchUp file. That this gives you a note telling you that it’s going to take a few minutes for the file to be converted – this is because of the cloud conversion happening in Autodesk’s servers.
Once this is done, you can open this file up inside of SketchUp. Note that if you’re dealing with smaller parts and pieces, sometimes SketchUp has some issues with handling the geometry that they should contain – you may have to go back and do some face repairs.
