In today’s Fusion 360 Tutorial, we’re going to talk about how to use the rectangular pattern tool inside of Autodesk Fusion 360 to create copies of different objects inside of your models!
The rectangular pattern tool is a tool that can be used to make multiple copies of different sketches, as well as different 3D bodies and components inside of Fusion 360.
The way it works is fairly simple. Let’s start by drawing a sketch of a circle on top of this rectangular object. Now, let’s say we want to create several copies of this sketch – we can use this tool in order to create a number of copies in a straight line along this object. Simply activate the rectangular pattern tool, then select the object you’d like to copy. From there, you’re going to want to set a couple different things – first – the direction in which you make the copy.
You can do this by clicking on the direction button, then dragging the arrow in the direction you’d like to make your copies. There are 2 options for the kind of distance you set – either extent, which lets you set the placement of your final object, or spacing, which allows you to set the distance between your first object and your second object, then you can dictate the number of copies you make.
You can set the number of copies either by typing in a value, or by clicking and dragging the little arrow slider.
Note that you can also create an array of multiple objects by adding a second direction by dragging the second arrow, or by typing in a value in the second direction box. This tool also will create copies of actual 3D bodies and components in much the same way. Notice that this tool lets you select faces, bodies, components, or features, so if you’d like to repeat a cut or some other function like that, select the feature option. Simply select the object, activate the tool, and make your copies.
That’s where I’m going to end this video – in the next video, we’re going to talk about how to use the circular pattern tool to make copies along a radius rather than along a straight line!
